Whats on my Mind

Donald Trump at High Point University

I was fortunate enough to grab a ticket to the Donald Trump rally before they were all gone. I got mine as soon as i got the email he was coming to HPU. Putting politics aside i was relay looking forward to going because i have never been in my life to such an event nor have ever seen a president or presidential candidate in person. I had an open mind set going to the event, having not made up my mind on who to vote for. When i was there i thought Trump brought up some important issues to me like national security and the economy, since i will be entering the work force in the near future the economy is high on my priority list. But Trump only re-hashed previous speeches, stuff we already have heard, no new discussions. Contrary to popular belief about his supporters i found them very nice and not unruly mater of fact i made a friend when i was there. Overall this was a once in a lifetime event and I am glad i had the opportunity to go.

Fianly myself Dan Smith-McGuinness, I am a History major, i would like to strive to obtain a job in the field of counter terrorism. Due to our groups diverse nature i believe we can all provide valuable input to all works. I thoroughly look forward to working with my group thought the semester on the various historical cases and mini works we have in class.

State v Mann Responce

The North Carolina case form 1829 was about a masters right to punish a slave. Mann the slave owner at the time of the incident was fined 10$ for shooting a slave when she tried to escape during punishment. He lost the case at the lower courts and then challenged the decision and took it all the way to the NC state Supreme court. In the Supreme Court he won the case and did not have to pay the 10$ fine. But the real historically changing event during the case was in the decision of the Supreme Court Justice Thomas Ruffin. In the decision he stated "the power of the master must be absolute, to render the submission of the slave perfect" this basically said that the master can do what ever he wanted to the slave due to slaves status as property. This also solidified slaves as property until the civil war, ending with Lincoln enacting the Emancipation Proclamation.

POTUS in Greensboro NC

Recently i had the opportunity to go to a political rally held by the President of the Untied States Barack Obama. I was skeptical to go at first considering that i will probably be singled out of the crowd. And another fact of the mater was that i was skeptical trough out his whole administration of his policy's and foreign affairs debacle and my mother had lost her job as a result of Obama's affordable care act which for my mom turned out to be no so affordable. I have stated my grievances and still went to the event because hes the president and i have never seen a president in person before. That reason alone was the only reason i went. I did not expect much from a lame duck president but the rally was just as i expected it to be. Filled with rhetoric that based the republican candidate for president. He could have spent time on some of the accomplishments he as achieved and help hillary  but no it was just bashing of a person. When i left i was as disappointed as ever i went to see a man that many love for what he has done and he spoke of nothing that he has done.

1st 2016 Presidential Debate

The wait is over the first  presidential debate airs tomorrow night and the stage is set for a crucial make or brake moment for either candidate. The hype for the debate is record braking right now if the trends continue this debate could be the most watched ever in american televised presidential debates. It is being held at Hofstra University not to far from where i live on Long Island. The key thing that need to happen for the candidates is, Hillary needs to try to emphasize and get across that Trump is not fit to be president and attempt to expose his flaws like being a loud mouth and his unpredictability if she can show that she wins the debate. Trump needs to on the other hand hammer home the fact that Hillary is un-trust worthy and can not be trusted as the President of the United states as well as exposing her previous failures like Benghazi, her health care plan and her inalienably to run the Travail Department when Bill was POTUS. But in the end this is only the first of three debates and the key one is the final one the last time they can make there case to the american people. One final point is the key to a success full debate is an unbiased moderator which is hard to come by.
The Fate of SCOTUS

The 2016 election will have a large impact across the United States. The most important one that everyone to has  forgotten about is the fate of the supreme court. The issue starts at the fact that a number of justices on the bench are old and could resign the bench or pass away. This could leave multiple vacancy's on the bench in the next few years. This year is a Presidential election year and the next president will appoint the new justices. We are at a critical point where multiple big ticket issues are being decided by the court in the coming years. Depending on who gets in office a Republican or Democrat can change the fate of those cases and many more to come with the appointments to the bench we could have a conservative bench or a liberal bench which can severely change this country as the court decides what the law of the land is. This is truly the biggest issue of this election as the next president of the united states can truly decide how the law of the land will be decided in the next 30 or so years to come. This is why people should be paying more attention to this election as this issue can effect our every day life more than any other issue this election cycle.
Trump 45th POTUS

This has been one of the most turbulent election cycles in recent history and its now over. Donald J Trump will be the 45th President of the United States. This election has brought out the best and the worst of us on both sides, but as time goes on the divisions will heal as they always do. Now that it is over we have to come together as a nation behind our president that america has elected. What i have seen in the days following the elections is heart braking as an american  all this crap that has been going on the these last few days of the election people marching around saying "Not my President" as well as the repeated physical attacks against trump supporters in the streets has to stop what have we become to drop to that level, yes people will be un happy but express your displeasure in an appropriate manor. This makes america as a whole look bad and what do you think other nations think about us because of these morons. People thought it was the end of the world when Obama was elected but it was not and it wont be now people need to stop acting like it and grow up.
How Trump Won

Trump manged to pull of the impossible and people today are wondering how he did it. The first big thing was something called the Silent Majority the majority that put Reagan in ofice, due to the real divide between the candidates a large number of Americans were scared to say who they supported this is what the silent majorly is people who do not say who they vote for. The second reason is Americans were fed up with Washington and are sick of politicians and that what appealed to them about trump something new and fresh not an insider. The final reason is Our Rust belt, typically blue states have recently elected republican governors due to the failing economy in those states, these are the hard working american who work day in and day out and are getting nowhere they all had blue governors before 2012 and now the states are moving in the right direction economically people are working and the economy is growing under red governors and in fact the election came down to these states.
Long Island Planed Segrigation?

Long Island NY a place i call home. I grew up there my entire life know it like the back of my head, I've driven form one end to the other seen many different people. Long Island is home to many different races and creeds we all know each other and get along great, but long Island has a dark past. All islanders know you cant take a truck on the parkways that cross the island because the bridges are to low you'd think because well that just the way they were built. But no they were the brain child of urban planer Robert Mosses, Mosses built them this way because he was a racist he hated the minority's those bridges were built to keep minority form taking buses out to ;long Island. Due to Mosses's manipulation of long island it developed enclaves of different races as the modes of transportation limited movement. Today this is seen through the long island public schools, my graduating class of 512 kids in the town of Northport, 2 out of that number were black. That astounded me so i did some research into the next town next to me Huntington and fornd out that there graduating class was about 80% black. This shows that long island today has developed into the most racially segregated area in the US.

Klansville

Recently 1 watched a documentary on the Klan in North Carolina. I went in expecting to see racist and teroristic  events unfolding. But this documentary was different it showed the Klan of the 60s in a very different light. It started of by introducing the Klan In NC and its leader Bob Jones its grand dragon and showed him off as a normal person living his life and that the Klan was his hobby, the white raciest vibes were not as strong as i thought they would be. As the video went on it got even more surprising in the way it showed the Klam as an organization helping local folk not as a white supremacists terrorist organization, it showed clips of peaceful rally's not lynch mobs. But as the documentary goes on you realize this is still the Klu Klux Clan and shows that bob Jones was stealing money form people and other felony activities. The video concludes with the explanation why the Klan fell apart because of Bob Jones departure and the simple realism that people still saw the KKK as a racist organization.
